Prospera Institute is an early-stage, independent research tank informing the public about the attitudes and trends shaping health in Latino, Black and Indigenous communities domestically and globally. Dedicated to prospering racial health, we envision a world of racial health equity for our respective communities. We bring together community stakeholders, ethicists and lay persons while applying ethical reasoning to the most challenging health equity problems in medicine, science, and cultural societies.
Our mission is catalyzed through research, education and social action engaging Latino, Black and Indigenous communities in efforts that advance racial health equity.
Remembering our past while moving forward.
The pandemic brough a period of economic insecurity for many organizations including ours.
Over the next five years Prospera Institute will focus on structural and fiscal sustainability by focusing on the following strategic areas:
Retain unrestricted grant funding and denotations to support capacity building over the next 6 months.
Procure technologies that enable operational efficiencies in the next 12 months.
1. Cultivate 5-7 community relationships and partnerships in Greater Boston area over the next 12 months.
Develop and pilot operating policies and procedures over the next 12 months.
In October 2022, our leadership team embarked on a strategic planning journey to inform a five year capacity-building strategy to support expanding LatinX Bioethics, Inc. grassroots efforts. Our Executive Director shared, “We must remain hopeful and not blind to histories that demonstrate perpetual subordination of Latino, Black and Indigenous bodies and communities, and systems that have led to the embodiment of racism and poor health outcomes. Our hope is to continue expanding on the grassroots efforts of LatinX Bioethics, and to make a dent in advancing racial health equity through an applied ethics.”
The strategic plan process included an integrated multi-stage process rich with community participation, feedback and support. The strategic plan will be revised annually to ensure Prospera is at the frontiers of mission-related health equity topics.
