In 2020, a spark ignited. A grassroots movement of students, united by a passion for Latino bioethics, dared to create something new: the HEFA Forum (formerly the LatinX Bioethics Forum). This wasn't just another academic platform; it was a revolution in bilingual storytelling, a microphone for Latino voices often unheard. Here, bioethics wasn't just theory – it was a call to social justice, a platform centering the ethical issues at the heart of the Latinx health crisis. Unlike the ivory towers of traditional publications, the HEFA Forum speaks in a language that empowers both scholars and community members. Through powerful narratives and creative expression, it unveils the raw realities of social, economic, and environmental factors impacting Latino health. This is more than a forum – it's a movement for change, a space where understanding ignites action, and the power of storytelling paves the way for a healthier future.
Indigenous Land Acknowledgement for Cultural Institutions
Prospera Institute, Boston, humbly acknowledges that the places where we eat, sleep, pray and work sits within the traditional, ancestral and stolen land of the Massachusetts Ponkapoag /ˈpɒŋkəpɔːɡ, tribe whose name was appropriated by this Commonwealth. We continue to survive honoring the elders through cultural practices; expressive arts ie.“areytos”/storytelling, prayer, reflection thus resisting systemic oppression and reclaiming liberation in public health and social practices.
